C.A.R.E.'s Board of Directors

C.A.R.E.’s dues-paying members elect a Board of Directors at each April’s Annual Meeting. Directors in turn elect officers.

John Brighenti is a developer whose projects have included Avon Old Farms Hotel, Riverdale Farms and Avon Wellness Center. He also owns and operates Avon Plumbing and Heating.

Donna Burkhardt (Secretary) flew for Pan Am for 23 years. After flying 6 million miles to 40 countries, and after living in Hawaii, she chose to return to her native Canton because, she says, there’s no place in the world like it.

Susan Carr is a medical writer who works for a New York City-based healthcare communications firm. Even given her strong affection for Maine, she agrees with Donna that there’s no place like Canton.

Curt Edgar has worked in the insurance claims field for 28 years, currently for Farmers Insurance Group in Rocky Hill. He is a Canton Historical Museum guide and Board of Directors member. He greatly appreciates Canton’s historical role in the development of the Farmington Valley, and beyond during the industrial revolution, and would like to see Canton develop in keeping with its character.

Maureen Flynn (Treasurer) lives at the base of Sweetheart Mountain and is one of the Friends of Sweetheart Mountain. She is a small business owner: she owns Books and Music in Plainville.

Jane Latus (Vice President) is a personal fitness trainer at Studio 202, located at the International Skating Center of Connecticut. She has worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, in public relations, and as a consultant for the CenterEdge Project. She also works as a part-time custodian at Canton Intermediate School.

Kathy Munroe is an insurance law attorney in private practice in Hartford. A graduate of Boston College and the UConn School of Law, she has lived in Connecticut almost all her life, except for three early career years in Los Angeles, where the joy of country living was much missed. She and her husband moved to Collinsville in 1989 after nine years down-river in Unionville.

Tom Sevigny (President) is an Air Force veteran and police dispatcher for the Town of Farmington. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in History from Trinity College in 1995 and also serves on the board of People's Action for Clean Energy.

Alan Weiner, AICP, a professional planner for 27 years, is City Planner for the City of Bristol. He is Membership Committee Chairman for the CT Chapter of the American Planning Association and a former member of Canton’s Planning Commission.
